Construction

The DC Voltsporsche Kit uses the NetGain WarP 9 motor. This welded steel mount will bolt to the end of the motor and to factory motor mount points on the chassis. This mount fits this motor and the Advanced D.c. 9" motors ONLY.

The Voltsporsche battery racks are powdercoated for acid-resistance. The boxes are constructed from 1/4" welded polypropylene, which is acid-prood and non-conducting. This strong material allows the box to be thin-walled and lightweight, and it does not require paint. The lid is routed and weatherstripped for a snug fit. Inside, plastic blocks welded to the lid press down on the battery tops and act as internal holddowns. Each assembly includes a ventilation fan and ventilation fittings.

Voltsporsche front batteries The front trunk rack and box assembly (left, foreground) holds six 6 volt golf cart batteries. The gas tank compartment rack and box assembly (left, background) holds three 6 volt golf cart batteries.

Voltsporsche engine compartment batteries The engine compartment rack and box assembly (right) holds nine 6 volt golf cart batteries.

Voltsporsche rear batteries The two batteries in the rear trunk (left) are each housed in an individual box and rack with joint ventilation.

Voltsrabbit motor mount The Voltsrabbit uses the NetGain ImPUlse 9 motor. This welded steel mount will bolt to the end of the motor, and fit into the original factory mount bracket on the passenger side of the chassis. It includes a rubber bushing to absorb vibrations. This mount is not offered for the 9" motor because the motor is too large and interferes with the original bracket.

Voltsrabbit grill blockoff When using the Voltsrabbit front battery rack on a 1980 or newer Rabbit (rectangular headlights and turn signals in the bumper), it is necessary to move the headlights forward 2" to allow clearance for the batteries. This painted sheet metal component accomplishes that, as well as blocking off the grill area for improved aerodynamics.

Voltsrabbit front battery rack The front rack assembly holds eight 6 volt golf cart batteries. It mounts to the bumper brackets on either side, and to the firewall in the rear. Due to limited space, the batteries are not in a box. Instead, they are held in place by steel frames around their tops. These frames are held to the racks by long bolts. The racks and frames are powdercoated for acid-resistance.

Voltsrabbit rear battery rack The rear assembly holds eight 6 volt golf cart batteries. The rack is a welded steel basket that is designed to fit in a hole in the chassis sheet metal behind the back seat. (Note: no structural members are cut in making this hole.) This position places most of the weight of the batteries below the floor, which improves handling and leaves cargo space above. This design helps keep the batteries in place in the event of an accident. There are also two hinged steel straps that go over the box as holddowns, and bolt into place.

Voltsrabbit rear batteries in box The box is constructed from 1/4" welded polypropylene, which is acid-prood and non-conducting. This strong material allows the box to be thin-walled and lightweight, and it does not require paint. The lid is routed and weatherstripped for a snug fit. Inside, plastic blocks welded to the lid press down on the battery tops and act as internal holddowns. The assembly includes a ventilation fan (visible in the lower right corner) and ventilation fittings (along the left side of the box).
